First Night Spokane 2011-12

Spokane’s “First Night” greets the new year with fireworks and art.

Once again we celebrated New Year’s Eve on the streets of downtown Spokane. The evening was a mixture of entertainment and visual arts, capped by a fireworks finale at midnight. The following are some of my favorite scenes from the festival.

First Night … and Day, Spokane

First Night Spokane offers entertainment and fireworks to count down the minutes to midnight.

This year’s festival was shrouded in sub-zero temperatures, but it still proved to be fun and well worth the extra effort invested in adorning multiple layers of clothing. The performances were an enjoyable potpourri of music, improv and dance. My favorite event was the 48 Hour Film Festival sponsored by North by Northwest Productions.

The following shots capture some of the evening’s allure.
