Snapping September at Long Lake Dam

As summer wanes, the rocky slopes surrounding Long Lake Dam dish up scenery and a turkey vulture.

Long Lake Dam, on the Spokane River, was built during the decade before WWI. Upon completion, it was the tallest dam of its design (spillway) in the world. Over that dynamic century, its turbines generated power for everything from street trolleys to I-pods, and they continue to do so today. The following are some shots of the historic dam and its setting.
